Date night is an essential and fun way to keep things exciting in a relationship. And we don't just mean romantic relationships; date nights (or days) are totally applicable to platonic relationships. They keep you from getting stuck in the same old routine and allowing you to experience new things. Your regular kind of date nights may be on pause for the foreseeable future. However, if you get creative, you can still find plenty of exciting things to do at home.
Advanced Movie Night.
Movie night is nothing new. You may already have more than one movie night a week. To make it unique for date night, go all-in with the movie's theme. We're talking snacks and outfits. You can either get dressed up as your favorite characters or if it's an older film use its release decade as inspiration. Snacks might be a bit harder to coordinate with certain movies, but if possible, it will feel more fun than just popcorn. You can load up on chocolate and candy to watch Charlie and the Chocolate Factory or put out a sumptuous French spread for Ratatouille. If you have a projector and a private outdoor space, why not create an outdoor cinema night?
This is a great one because there are so many options: board games, card games, quizzes, and trivia, or even classic childhood games like hide and seek. If you have space and equipment, you can create at-home versions of activities like bowling too! Be creative with your prizes to make the games extra fun. Winners can receive physical awards or bet-style accolades like having dinner cooked for them for the next week.
If you love the experience of dining out, try making your at-home restaurant or bar. Design your menu and try your best to make your dining area look like a restaurant by adding candles, tablecloths, and maybe some fresh flowers. If you're not much of a cook, you can order takeout. This may be a more thoughtful choice if your partner is craving food from a specific restaurant. Have some fun by experimenting with cocktails instead of just cracking open a bottle of wine. This activity is an excellent excuse to get dressed to the nines, too, so don't be shy about enforcing a dress code!
Don't worry; this doesn't involve buying a bunch of rare and expensive artwork. All you need is some free wall space and possibly a printer. If your partner is an art lover, treat them to a cultural experience by creating a mini-museum. Find some artwork to display in your room or corner of choice. The display can mean just taped up instead of framed. If you have a printer, use it to print out copies of paintings you know they'd like. If not, you can use images from magazines. Or give it an extra special touch, make a personal exhibition of your partner and your relationship together by using your photos.
Was the concert you were meant to go to reschedule? It may not be as good as the real thing, but you can create a fake show at your house to tide you over until the new date. Curate your dream setlist and have a dance party in your living room.
Staying in has never been so fun!
